Global Finalist Profile

“We created a model to bring the internet to the rural communities that the big telcos are not interested in connecting.”

The Problem

For big Telcos is not attractive to invest in connecting rural communities of less than 5k people; so 3.2 billion people can’t use the internet to do their homework, make an emergency call, or receive money transfers.

The Solution

Coco created the coco box, a Wi-Fi + Satellite kit that allows them to connect any rural community to the internet for less than $2k. Once we identify a target community, they affiliate a local entrepreneur and install our coco box in the new affiliate’s shop; so they can offer pre-paid data plans starting at $0.25. Through their affiliates, the entreprise bring accessible internet to people living in rural Mexico.
