Global Finalist Profile

“DeepAgro is a software company based on artificial intelligence, dedicated to the development of new technologies for innovation in agriculture. We developed SprAI, an intelligent weed detection system to carry out a selective application of herbicides at any stage of soybean crop growth.”

The Problem

By 2050, the world’s population is projected to reach a total of 10 billion people. Today, natural resources have been affected by the way we use them and appear to be insufficient to produce the food we need.

The constant and increasing use of agrochemicals to control weeds creates a vicious cycle. In the world, agrochemicals are applied uniformly over the entire surface of the field, making their use increasingly inefficient, expensive, and harmful to the environment and human health. The development of diseases, the loss of biodiversity, soil and water contamination, deforestation, are some of the consequences of the indiscriminate application of agrochemicals.

At DeepAgro, we managed to reduce the agrochemical applied and its environmental impact by 70%, directly impacting Sustainable Development Goal 12.

The Solution

We developed a device that, through RGB cameras and a computer, allows the agrochemical to be applied automatically only on the weed in real-time.

This device can be mounted on any spray equipment (new or used, of any brand) and allows the agricultural producer to continue working in the way they do today, but selectively applying the chemical product. The main advantage of our solution is that we can work in all stages of the crop, that is, in more applications of agrochemicals per year (the competition only in 1 application per hectare, we up to 4).
